MARVEL STUDIOS INTRO
BRANDING
Lead Artist
We were asked to replicate the incredible “green and gold look” seen previously on Loki Season 1 onto the logo for Loki Season 2. In addition, we added the iconic Ms. Minutes to the collection of clips seen in the Vault section of the intro.
SHORT VERSION
Because I am Groot Season 2 had to be included into the Kids section of Disney+, it had to pass the official photosensitivity test. The logo created for I am Goot Season 1 with the “glitchy fast forward look” had too many frames that failed the test. To adapt, we opted to update the fast forward aesthetic to match the one seen in the UI of the Disney+ application itself. This way we were able to guarantee there wasn’t too much of a change, in terms of brightness, from one frame to the other and we passed the test.
WHAT IF SEASON 2
The Marvel Studios logo for What If Season 2 received an extreme update. We were able to completely replace the characters seen in the Concept Art and Vault sections of the logo with characters of What If. This project was also used to create a VR experience where you can see the Marvel Studios logo animating as if you are in that environment.
I AM GROOT SEASON 2
Marvel Studios came to us to create a short version of the Marvel Studios logo animation that would be used for streaming. After presenting many variations of it, the one you see above was selected for final. We wanted to keep it simple and to maintain what makes the original logo so recognizable. It was first seen in the beginning of the first episode of Secret Invasion.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Marvel Studios intro was another that received a major customization. After a lot of back and forth with the client, I replaced all characters seen in the original logo with clips of the Guardians of the Galaxy characters. Because the movie starts with a sad tone, we had to reflect that in our intro. The music and the selection of clips really carry the mood the director wanted to portray.
LOKI SEASON 2
We were also tasked to adapt the short version of the Marvel Studios logo with Loki’s Green and Gold look.
In 2016, Perception was asked by Marvel Studios to create a new Marvel Studios Logo animation intro. Ever since then, it has been a staple before every Marvel Studios release and, the majority of them, is updated to include new clips in the Vault or they get bigger creative changes.
The clip replacements of the Marvel Studios logo go through a long process until they are ready for delivery. From clip selections, clip placements, color correction, and client feedback to final execution, the process of updating the Marvel Studios logo can vary in time. The programs used to create this beloved intro are Cinema 4D, After Effects, and Nuke.
I have been the only artist working on all Marvel Studios Logo projects since Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and I have had the opportunity to conceptualize and execute the updates to the following Marvel Studios Intros:
THE MARVELS
The Marvel Studios logo for the film The Marvels did not get a complete transformation, but I was in charge of replacing a total of 15 clips in the Vaut with clips of Kamala, Monica and Carol.
For Episode 4, we received a plate from the client and had to come up with a transition from the short logo animation into the first scene of the episode. It was a great challenge figuring out how to have the Marvel Studios logo be integrated into a wormhole, but the results definitely paid off.
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE
We got to work directly with Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds to craft the Marvel Studios logo for Deadpool & Wolverine. We incorporated Deadpool’s humor into the logo by having him interact with Captain America throwing the shield. In this version of the Marvel Studios logo, you can see Cap’s shield fly past the frame as if it is going towards you. Besides that, I crafted a special look for logo at the end when it transitions from the standard stainless steel look to a custom red and yellow logo that represents Deadpool and Wolverine.
ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was the first project I worked on its Marvel Studios Logo. For this update, I included Kang and Vision into the Vault.
CLIENT: MARVEL
STUDIO: PERCEPTION
ECHO
For Echo, I included the iconic shot of Ms. Marvel sitting on a light pole looking over NYC into the Vault.
